A day in Oviedo

I was already in the cathedral of San Salvador at 9 o'clock in the morning while Pascual had to teach  at the Oviedo University last Friday. I looked around and started to take some pictures. It was very nice to do it in the morning when there were only few people in the street. The place looked nicer and the pictures looked better too.

Estaba en la catedral de San Salvador a las 9 de la mañana, mientras que Pascual tuvo que dar clase en la Universidad de Oviedo el pasado viernes. Miré a mi alrededor y empecé a sacar fotos. Fue muy agradable hacerlo por la mañana cuando había muy poca gente. El sitio parace más bonito y las fotos se veían mejor también.

Maybe the worst part in the morning is when you meet crazy drunk people; for example this guy who was sitting in the entrance of the episcopal palace in the square of ¨La Corrada del Obispo¨. He was really crazy. Suddenly he took off his pants and his underpants. 

Tal vez la peor parte de mañana es cuando encuentras con alguién que está loco borracho, por ejemplo un chico que estaba sentado en la entrada del  palacio episcopal en la plaza de ¨La Corrada del Obispo¨. Estaba muy loco. De repente se quitó los pantalones y los calzoncillos también.

My question is why there are so many statues in Oviedo? Mi pregunta es por qué hay tantas estatuas en Oviedo?

Maternity statue in ¨Campo de San Francisco¨ park, Oviedo. This park is absolutely wonderful but I only have this picture and a picture of a duck and a bird in the duck pond. Here I was just taking a break and enjoying the view.

Botero' statue in La Escandalera squeare ¨La Maternidad¨ (Motherhood) although it is popularly called ¨La Gorda¨ (the Fat Lady). It was decorated with posters of the ¨15 M movement¨ demands a radical change in Spanish politics and society.

So what can I say about Oviedo is that it is a great city. I had a good time spending the whole morning there. Then at noon when Pascual finished teaching, Marta brought us to a fantantic small old bar to have lunch, a very big lunch. There was a group of people playing domino and I was tempted to join but I was too busy finishing my food. I'm a slow eater. 

Qué puedo decir de Oviedo es que es una gran ciudad.  Me lo pasé muy bien paseando por la mañana. Luego al mediodía, cuando terminó Pascual en dar clase, Marta nos llevó a un fantastico chigre para comer. Había un grupo de gente jugando dominó y estuve tentada a participar pero estaba tan ocupada terminando mi comida. Como muy despacio.

The last thing we did before going straight back to Santander was to visit the pre-Romanesque palace and church. It's a pity that I cannot show you the pictures now because they are in the other film and is not finished yet. So...anyone fancy a bit chorizo? 

Lo último que hicimos antes de ir directamente de vuelta a Santander fue visitar el palacio y la iglesia pre-románica. Que lástima que no puedo mostraros las fotos ahora porque están en el otro carrete y todavía no lo ha terminado. Así que...¿alguien quiere chorizo?
